MEDIA & COMMUNITY ADVISORY: Outlets of Des Moines hosts Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Great Strides Walk

What: The Iowa Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will host a Great Strides Walk at Outlets of Des Moines to raise funds and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis (CF), a rare, genetic disease that progressively limits the ability to breathe and ultimately causes premature death.

2018 marks the 30th anniversary of Great Strides. Since the program began in 1988, the walk has raised nearly $600 million to help drive advances in CF research and care that have dramatically improved outcomes for people with the genetic disease.

Great Strides provides a fantastic opportunity for family, friends, students, and colleagues to come together and make a difference in the lives of people with CF. The event harnesses the power of people with a shared vision and encourages collaboration, team building, and leadership to help find a cure for CF.

When: Saturday, May 19, 2018. Registration for the walk will start at 9:00 a.m.
Outlets of Des Moines will host a Great Strides pre-party celebration on Friday, May 18 from 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Guests can enjoy live music by Brad Seidenfeld. There will be food available for purchase by Teriyaki Boys, Charley’s Philly Steaks, The Outside Scoop and The Machine Shed Food Truck.

Registration is free, but walkers are encouraged to raise funds. The Altoona Fire and Police Departments will
be on site providing activities for kids.

Walk: 10:00 a.m.
Free Lunch for all walk participants: 11:00 a.m.
